| Resumo | Anthropic burnings are common during the dry season in the Brazilian savanna (Cerrado) but in the Emas National Park around 65% to 85% of the burnings are natural, caused by lightning in rain season. This work used the first images acquired by the sensors CCD, IRMSS and WFI, onboard CBERS 2, from 12/Nov/2003 to 07/June 2004, to assess the incidence of natural burnings in the Park during the rain season. The identification of the burned areas in the images was done based on the scars leaved by the ashes and by re-growth of the burned vegetation. The better spectral identification of the burned areas were in the near infrared (0.77-0.89 µm) and in the middle infrared (1,55-1,75 µm and 2.08-2.34 µm). Fifteen burnings were identified, while fourteen occurred during the rain season and were induced by lightning. The burned area was around 8,000 hectares, where 5,300 hectares corresponded to natural burnings. The single natural burning area ranged from one to 1,759 hectare. | |||
